Reiki for Children

enjoyenergyhealing

The calming practice of Reiki promotes relaxation and confidence. Children are able unplug and get the time they need and deserve to tap into the Universal Life Energy. They enjoy their “me” time and hold on to the lasting effects. The gift of Reiki at a young age promotes a healthy way of living throughout their adult lives, helping them make better choices and create balance.

Benefits for Reiki Children and Teens:
* Less likely to show signs of excitability and depression
* Improves concentration improving test scores
* Enhances relaxation and sleep
* Calms and promotes balance
* Enhances self awareness and self esteem
* Helps with asthma

Reiki benefits for children, teens (6-15):

Reiki therapy is safe and non-invasive. It is being used to facilitate relaxation and recovery, decrease anxiety and treat pain in hospices, nursing homes, emergency rooms, operating rooms, organ transplantation care units, pediatric, neonatal and OB/GYN units.

According to Lawrence Palevsky, M.D., FAAP, former Chief of Pediatric Acute Care at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, one of the biggest issues for kids today is maintaining acceptable behavior while dealing with anxieties, fears, emotions, peer pressures, and educational pressures. In addition, the range of childhood ailments - ear infections, respiratory infections, asthma, and gastrointestinal upset - is extending to include many conditions that once plagued only adults, such as type 2(adult-onset) diabetes. Palevsky sees Reiki as a valuable part of care, one that can quietly address the emotional component of conditions such as asthma and irritable bowel syndrome whole empowering kids with another tool for self-regulation.

ADD or ADHD

According to statistics released this year by the National Mental Health Association, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)  is the most common psychiatric condition, affecting millions of children and estimated to affect 5 to 10 percent of all children nationwide. Children with this diagnosis often demonstrate, among other things: inattentiveness, irritability, impulsivity, hyperactivity, social/emotional issues and defiance.
Reiki can be very helpful with these issues. Of course, each situation is unique and a cure cannot be promised, but practitioners have been reporting positive results using Reiki with behavior problems for quite a long time. Part of the key to this benefit regarding children with ADD or ADHD is the flexibility practitioners have regarding application. The practitioner can simply be in the same room with the child, offering the energy gently, without touching or even being near the child. Some practitioners just spend time with the child, playing, coloring....letting the child guide the action. As the child becomes more and more comfortable, and as the energy begins to work, changes can be made in how the child receives Reiki.
Since Reiki works on all levels of the body - mental and emotional as well as physical - the body will be able to use the energy to find balance in its own way. It will adjust to the moment, an important factor in dealing with these issues. Changes may come gradually, as is the case with Reiki and many other natural healing techniques. Often, it would be a wise choice for a parent to be trained in Reiki so the child can receive daily Reiki.

Autism
Practitioners have also seen good results working with and training children with Autism, Asperger's, and other developmental syndromes. The causes of autism are unknown, and much controversy surrounds it. Because Reiki is balancing, it can be of benefit regardless of the cause, and can provide soothing moments for parents and kids alike. Reiki helps children get rid of fear, worry and lack of interest. Children who learn Reiki benefit from empowerment as well as its centering effect.

What is Reiki Attunement?

Reiki HealingPeople often mention to me that they’ve received attunements.
If I’m feeling playful, I ask, “What’s an attunement?”
Many are nonplussed by the question, as if they’ve never been asked it before, or never asked it themselves. Others launch a rocket of a response, a barrage of words that doesn’t tell me anything — or at least not what the practitioner had in mind.

Reiki propaganda

I am deeply interested in people’s understanding of Reiki practice. I truly am. And so I ask questions, lots of them.
More often than not, what I hear is a lack of understanding, a memorized bit of — yes, I’m going to call it propaganda — that hides a huge untended question mark.
That’s unfortunate, because blind allegiance to the party line won’t unlock the door to freedom.
Don’t we pursue a spiritual practice such as Reiki to increase our inner spaciousness and personal freedom? One way spiritual practice increases our freedom is by encouraging us to question, to dive into the unknown, to savor the mystery.
Perhaps the greatest mystery of Reiki practice is initiation. Reiki is not a skill-based practice as, for example, yoga is. Reiki is an initiation-based practice, an empowered practice. The Reiki initiation is the very life breath of Reiki practice. Without initiation, there is no Reiki practice.

Initiation or attunement?

Some time after the death of Hawayo Takata* in December 1980, the word “attunement” starting popping up. Many Reiki practitioners now use it exclusively for the process Mrs. Takata referred to as initiation (reiju in Japanese).
Even though the initiation process is mysterious, the word “initiation” is pretty straightforward. It refers to beginning.
Initiation is the process by which a master shares with a student the ability to practice. Initiation lineage keeps a practice alive, and is common in Asian spiritual traditions.
Just as the essence of practice is to begin again, initiation can be repeated. Usui offered reiju to his students each time they gathered to practice.
The rise of the word “attunement” seems to have put an end to questioning. It encouraged practitioners to see Reiki as a particular vibration of “energy” to which people need to be “attuned” in order to practice. This confusion — that one is attuned to energy rather than initiated into practice — has taken on a life of its own and is now generally presented as fact.
But it’s not a fact. It’s a belief. And if Reiki practice is predicated on belief, it’s no longer a practice; it becomes a religion.
When you look at it that way — which is how people outside the New Age community tend to look at it — is it so surprising that some religious folk are opposed to Reiki practice?

Demystifying initiation, so to speak

It’s impossible to actually demystify initiation because the process itself is mystical. But whereas the initiation process is mysterious, what it accomplishes is practical and usually palpable. People who receive a Reiki initiation notice the effect.
As a young Reiki master, I made the mistake perhaps all new masters make: I talked too much.
Over time I came to appreciate that my job is not to explain Reiki. Rather, my responsibility as a Reiki master is simply to teach students how to practice Reiki, to inspire them to practice daily self-treatment, and to give them the confidence that they actually can practice successfully.
I know all my students need are the initiations; I also know they don’t know that. I can’t expect them to believe me, nor do I want them to. I want students to develop their own confidence. And nothing I say can create confidence the way in-class practice does.
In my First degree classes, we move into the first of four initiations right after the welcome and introductions. I then lead the students through their first modified Reiki practice. After this brief initial practice, and before they open their eyes, I ask them to notice any little difference between the way they feel now compared to how they felt when they started.
Once I’ve gently led them out of their practice session, the students share what they noticed during their first practice. I don’t remember the last time someone didn’t notice anything. People at the very least feel calmer, more centered, more relaxed — and are savvy enough to realize that’s not the way they would have expected to feel sitting quietly amidst strangers.
The process of initiation is inherently mysterious; what it accomplishes — enabling us to practice — is not.
*Hawayo Takata and her Japanese Reiki master Chujiro Hayashi brought Reiki practice to Hawaii from Japan in the late 1930s. Hayashi was trained by Reiki lineage founder Mikao Usui.
August 15 marks the 147th anniversary of the birth of Mikao Usui, founder of the Reiki practice lineage. We will celebrate with a special guest blog by UK Reiki master and Reiki history buff Colin Powell. Reiki Attunement

REIKI I ATTUNEMENT
A Reiki attunement can be a powerful sacred time for those who receive it. When a Reiki Master initiates a student, they are gifted with the ability to then channel Reiki energy through their own hands - to heal oneself & others. Following an initiation the student becomes a Reiki Practitioner Certificate & Reiki manual provided.

A Reiki initiation (attunement) is passed down by a Reiki Master through a series of sacred rituals.

A Reiki attunement is an initiation to open up crown, heart, and palm chakras to allow Reiki energies to flow through. Reiki attunements open a channel for the Reiki energy to flow from practitioner's hands to the client.

There are 4 attunements in total. The actual attunement process for all four initiations are secret and kept so for sacred reasons. The initiation involves the student sitting on a chair with their eyes closed and hands together in a prayer position. The Reiki Master then moves around the student operating various sacred rituals, which eventually after the second day of initiation will result in a Reiki practitioner.

Throughout the whole initiation process, the Reiki Master and the newly initiated practitioner are constantly giving Reiki treatments to each other. Here, the new Reiki practitioner is taught the various body positions that are more conducive to Reiki energy as well as all the necessary information required by Reiki I. The practitioner is taught how to give hands-on as well as hands-off techniques, something that has been rediscovered in the West quite recently. This diversity of healing allows the Reiki practitioner to then improvise and innovate with their healing when they leave.

Anyone, with any beliefs, can become a Reiki practitioner

A Reiki attunement has three primary benefits

Firstly it paves the way for the student being attuned to undergo a powerful spiritual transformation that lasts for the rest of their lives. Being attuned means that one is baptised with cosmic Divine energy that can literally change lives for the better. The Reiki initiation opens a practitioner to receive and channel more universal energy, which allows them greater connection to Source as well as their Higher Selves (Inner Spirit). As we connect with Spirit more and more, we remember the reality of who we are – Spiritual beings having a human experience – it is here where we begin to experience true miracles in our lives.

The second benefit is that once attuned, an individual immediately becomes a Reiki practitioner. This means that they now have the ability to heal themselves using Reiki. Self-healing can be practised daily to allow Universal energy to permeate all levels of being – leading to a calmer, vibrant and more fulfilling life. Physical pains can be self-healed as well as emotional and mental turbulence that we often feel in our lives.

The third benefit, of course, is the ability to offer others the wonderful gift of a Reiki treatment session. Giving Reiki sessions not only help to heal and balance a recipient but also wonderfully healing the practitioner whilst he/she gives the healing. Many Reiki practitioners choose not to pursue professional engagement and enjoy wonderful lives with the ability to self-heal and to heal others if they choose. And of course, many choose to professional engage in Reiki treatment to learn deeper healing techniques (as with Reiki II and Reiki III: Master Teacher Training).

Anyone can receive a Reiki attunement, and as soon as one does they are open to channel Universal energy for the rest of their lives. There is no way that someone “cannot be good" at Reiki. Once initiated through the attunement process, an individual becomes a Reiki practitioner for life. Also remember that there is no wrong way to give Reiki since the energy that is channelled is intelligent in itself. Therefore Reiki energy will always work for the highest good of the recipient and the practitioner.

Preparing for your Reiki Attunement

This is for guidance only and not to be taken as gospel. Reiki Attunements work whatever the state of the being. A simple act of wanting to receive allow the energy to flow faster. Below are some traditional guidelines:

* Eliminate or reduce intake of meat, fowl, or fish from your diet 3 days prior to your class date. Not necessary but beneficial.
* Lower your intake of alcohol for at least 3 days prior to the attunement. Preferably none, to clear your energetic field.
* If you are on any type of medication, continue to take it as prescribed prior to and on the day of attunement.
* Smokers should take care to smoke as little as possible for the day prior to the class date and on the day of the attunement.
* Become conscious of outside stimulation (television, radio, computers, newspapers). Observe with detachment.
* If possible, find moments of solitude. Meditation and spending time with nature (walks, sitting beside streams, etc.).
* Be gentle with yourself. Try not to tackle any tasks, physically or emotionally that will deplete your energies.
* You may choose a water or juice fast for 1 to 3 days prior to the attunement. (This is optional and a rare luxury). Try to drink plenty of water.

What Is Reiki Healing? Can Reiki Help Me?

Source: http://www.reiki-for-holistic-health.com/

One of the greatest Reiki healing health benefits is stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the bodies natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health. Reiki healing is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and well being to the recipient.

This simple, non-invasive healing system works with the Higher Self of the Receiver to promote health and well being of the entire physical, emotional and psychic body. Therefore it is truly a system of attaining and promoting wholeness of Mind, Body and Spirit.

Reiki is a specific type of subtle energy work in which healing is performed by the touch of the hands, allowing the flow of the energy from a limitless source (God Force) to the patient via the Reiki practitioner. It is extremely powerful, yet gentle energy that can be easily channelled to yourself and others, just by intention.
Reiki healing is a pure energy form. When it is combined with the sincere Desire of the Healee, who is willing to effect a cleansing within their emotional and spiritual consciousness, a total healing can occur.

POTENTIAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF REIKI HEALING TREATMENTS

When the flow of the "Life Force Energy" is disrupted, weakened or blocked, emotional or health problems tend to occur. Imbalances can be caused from many situations occurring in our lives, such as: emotional or physical trauma, injury, negative thoughts and feelings, including fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, negative self-talk, toxicity, nutritional depletion, destructive lifestyle and relationships, neglect of self and lack of love for oneself or others, from emotions that are not expressed in a healthy way...

Reiki is excellent for healing any physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues of any kind and it gives wonderful results.

Some Of The Reiki Healing Health Benefits:

  • Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension,
  • It accelerates the bodies self-healing abilities,
  • Aids better sleep,
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Can help with acute (injuries) and chronic problems (asthma, eczema, headaches, etc.) and aides the breaking of addictions,
  • Helps relieve pain,
  • Removes energy blockages, adjusts the energy flow of the endocrine system bringing the body into balance and harmony,
  • Assists the body in cleaning itself from toxins,
  • Reduces some of the side effects of drugs and helps the body to recover from drug therapy after surgery and chemotherapy,
  • Supports the immune system,
  • Increases vitality and postpones the aging process,
  • Raises the vibrational frequency of the body,
  • Helps spiritual growth and emotional clearing
When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal.

Long term practice of whole-body reiki will restore the general condition of the body. It will open the energy channels and this will allow the body to deal properly and naturally with stress and build-up toxins and cope with anxiety and depression.

When a person is in good health, regular therapy will increase the bodies built-in defences. This will manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. The person will gain a positive outlook on life.

Reiki will also provide additional energy required to recover from illness.

A Reiki healing session can induce an extremely comfortable state of being that can bring alteration in the clients consciousness.

If used with other natural therapies (meditation, crystals, aroma therapy, Bach Flower remedies, homeopathy, etc.) Reiki will reinforce their effect.

It can be used also as complementary therapy, because Reiki is truly a complementary care. It complements and enhances the health care the patient receives in the hospital or from other health care providers.

Reiki healing complements Eastern and Western medicine and everybody can benefit from it.It is beneficial to the health of woman (even pregnant), man, children and it is also excellent to be used on animals (dogs, cats, horses), plants, water, etc.

Reiki healing energy is a tool for use at any moment, any time, any where for on-the-spot stress release, pain relief and quick energy.

ABOUT THE USUI SYSTEM OF REIKI HEALING

This natural healing modality originates in Tibet. The name "Reiki" (rey-key)comes from the technique as re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist in the early 20th century.

"Re" means "Universal" and it is a general term for spirit or unseen spiritual quality, which serves as channel for "Ki" or "Life Force Energy" (some call it God, Buddha, Chi, Qi, Prana, Love Energy, or similar). It relates to the superior, all-encompassing cosmic energy from which all other minor energies in the universe draw their power. Everything in the Universe is made up from energy particulars which form the Omniscient, All-Knowing Blueprint for Creation. The Vital Living Energy Force comes in different manifestations of energy and one of these being the frequences in which Reiki was born.

The Usui System of Natural Healing teaches us also the "Secret Art" of "Inviting Happiness" into one's life which can be achieved by working with the Five Reiki Ideals and the Three Degrees of Attunements. The Five Reiki Ideals help us realize that improving oneself is an essential part of Reiki healing.
HOW REIKI HEALING ENERGY WORKS?

The body is more than just a collection of functioning parts. Since everything generates a frequency, the body and its organs have their own energy field which is continually changing. All conditions of disease are rooted in this energy system. If our "life force" is low or blocked, we are more likely to get sick. But if it is high and flowing freely, we can maintain our health and well being.

Reiki Healing Energy provides means to balance the human energy fields(Auras) and energy centers (Chakras) to create conditions needed for the bodies healing system to function.

The Reiki practitioner assists the client to heal themselves spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically by a simple laying on of hands. By the use of ancient healing symbols the practitioner channels the Universal Life Force energy allowing it to flow where is needed to bring the energy centers into alignement.

The Reiki practitioner must be a clear vessel through which the healing energy flows. He/She plays an instrumental part in the healing process, but ultimately it is up to the healee to manifest harmony and balance in their own life.
